Lightening Up Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
Overview
Lightening Up runs on your devices. The app does not automatically send your timer settings or meditation activity to the developer. It has no accounts, advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics.
Information stored on your device
The app remembers your interval length, number of intervals, selected sound, whether the session start countdown is enabled and its selected duration, which recordings are included when Random sounds are selected, whether intervals are Fixed or Random and the selected total duration and minimum/maximum interval lengths, appearance choice (System, Light, or Dark on iPhone; Light or Dark on Apple Watch), whether Apple Health logging and automatic screen dimming are turned on, and whether the Quick Tour has been dismissed. The Watch app and its complication share the Watch appearance preference through local storage on the Watch. On iPhone and Apple Watch, it also stores temporary timing checkpoints and a randomly generated session identifier while a session is active. These are cleared when you complete or end the session, or on the next full app launch; reopening after the app has fully stopped returns to setup with your preferences retained. The identifier is used locally to manage the timer and avoid duplicate Apple Health entries, not to track you. The app does not keep a browsable history of completed meditation sessions. When Apple Health logging is enabled, identifiers and start/end times awaiting a successful Health save are temporarily retained locally for retry. These pending entries are cleared after successful saving or when logging is turned off.
How information is used
Local information is used only to remember your choices, run the timer, play bells, show the current session, and save sessions to Apple Health if you turn that on. The app does not access your location, contacts, microphone, camera, or heart rate, and it never reads Apple Health data. Bell recordings are included with the app and do not require contacting an audio website.
Apple Health (optional)
Apple Health logging is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the app saves each completed session, and any session you end early after at least one minute, as Mindful Minutes: the start and end time of the time you meditated. Access is write-only; the app never reads your Health data. These entries are stored by Apple Health on your devices and synchronized by Apple according to your Health and iCloud settings. The app does not send them to the developer or anyone else, and they are never used for advertising or marketing. You can turn logging off in the app or remove the app’s access in the Health settings on your iPhone (Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices). Entries already saved remain in Apple Health until you delete them there.
Sound playback and Lock Screen display
Bells play as audio on your device, including while it is locked. The app does not request notification permission. On iPhone, it may show timer status on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island through Apple’s Live Activities, and on Apple Watch the system may show the session in Now Playing. Others with access to your screen may see this status. You can turn off Live Activities in your device’s Settings.
Previously saved diagnostics
Audio diagnostic recording is no longer available in the app. Upgrading turns off any recording enabled in an earlier version. Previously saved local recordings remain on your device and are not automatically uploaded. They contain technical playback events, not microphone recordings. Logs you previously chose to send to support are handled like other support correspondence.
Purchases
Optional Premium access is a one-time purchase processed by Apple. The app uses Apple StoreKit to verify purchase ownership and restore access on your devices. Apple manages payment information and transaction records; the developer does not receive your payment card details. Verified purchase information may be available on your device for offline use. Apple handles purchases, restoration, refunds, and related records under its own terms and privacy policy. The app does not send purchase identifiers or meditation activity to a developer-operated server.
Sharing and Apple services
The app does not sell, share, or transmit your information to advertisers, data brokers, or analytics services. It does not operate a server or its own cloud synchronization service. Apple may handle device backups, Apple Health synchronization, and diagnostic reports according to your device settings and Apple’s privacy policy. Those system services are separate from the app’s local storage.
Retention and deletion
Your preferences remain on the device until you change them or remove the app and its data. Ending or completing a session clears its saved progress on iPhone and Apple Watch. A full app restart also discards unfinished session progress while retaining your preferences. Simply locking the device or switching apps does not reset a session. To remove local app data, delete the app from each device; offloading the app may preserve its data. Mindful Minutes saved to Apple Health are not removed when you delete the app; you can delete them in the Health app. Backups and system-managed displays are controlled separately through Apple’s settings. The developer cannot access or remotely delete information stored only on your device.
If you contact support
If you choose to email support, your email address and whatever you include in your message will be received through the email service used for support. That information is used to answer your request and resolve the issue, and retained only as long as needed for that purpose or required by law. You may request deletion of support correspondence using the contact address below. Please avoid sending sensitive information.
Children
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. No account or personal information is required to use the timer.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s privacy practices change, this policy and its revision date will be updated. Any permissions required for new features will be requested before access.
